The key to success in any classroom is knowing what is expected from the teacher.  Although expectations may vary from teacher to teacher, the same basic elements still hold true.  It is desired that each student completes all required material on time at the highest level of quality possible.  Below are some important components of my grading procedures and classroom expectations.

Grading

Student grades are based on a raw points scale.  The percentage is determined as a fraction of the number of points earned divided by the total number of points possible.  These points are earned in the form of homework, notebooks and portfolios, in-class and out-of-class projects, tests, quizzes, and class participation.

Example:  Suppose a studen has earned 37 points out of 40 on a test, 10 out of 11 points on a quiz, and has accumulated 20 points out of a possible 20 points on homework.  The grade would be calculated as shown:

     37 + 10 + 20 = 67 points earned                40 + 11 + 20 = 71 points possible

The grade is 67 divided by 71 which equals 0.94366 or a 94.4%

Homework

Homework is an essential part of success in mathematics, and for a student to excel in the math classroom he/she must complete homework on a regular basis.  Students are given homework approximately 3 or 4 nights per week and are required to complete it in pencil showing all of their work.  If a student does not complete the assigned homework, they are given a strike.  In the event that 3 strikes are accumulated, the student is assigned academic detention as stated in the school policy.
